Activity Authorisation for Leaders

All Leaders and Helpers who wish to carry out Caving, Climbing, Abseiling, Mountain Activities or Water Activities with their Scouts will need to obtain a specific Activity Authorisation in accordance with the Association’s rules. Archery and Shooting require National Governing Body authorisation. Failure to do this would not only be irresponsible but could invalidate insurance cover.

.

Applicants should have carried out First Aid Training to the standard required by each type of authorisation. First Aid training is available through the Local Training Manager or other providers. Application forms for each type of activity (as above) may be obtained by phoning County Office (01454 613 006) and the appropriate form and explanatory notes will be sent by post. The completed Form will set out the applicants training and/or experience in the activity and requires the signature of the GSL and District Commissioner. The form is then forwarded to the appropriate County Adviser or person designated as shown under the Activity heading in this booklet. Applicants will normally be required to meet with one of the panel of County Activity Assessors, who will carry out a practical assessment of their skills and ask relevant questions. A recommendation will then be made to the District Commissioner, setting out the limits or conditions under which the activity may be carried out: e.g. geographical area, season, severity of water, etc. The approved Authorisation will be issued by the DC, for a maximum of 5 years. First Authorisations may be for a shorter period. Queries on any of these matters should be referred to your GSL, District or County Activity Adviser / Assistant Commissioner. Note that all activities should be notified to the GSL (if this is the DC’s requirement) or to the DC himself – see POR Chapter 9.

.

Depending on the location of your activities, you may need to notify your District Commissioner (or their nominee) of the activity. The on-line activity notification forms enable you to complete a simple on-line form for your DC and submit the information via email.
