Checklist
Before any adventurous activity can take place, Leaders should familiarise themselves with the Activity Rules in Chapter 9 of POR and the relevant fact sheets for the activity. In order for insurance cover by headquarters to be effective the rules of the Association must be followed, particularly those governing the authorisation of activities and safety precautions applying to activities (Chapter 8 Rule 8.3). To this end, before an activity takes place a leader must ensure that:
* the Leader of the activity has a current and appropriate authorisation
* a risk assessment establishes the party members’ capabilities and experience
* the party size is in accordance with regulations
* there is an adequate ratio of leaders to young people
* GSL’s have been notified of the event
* that the In Touch rules are followed
* parents understand the In Touch system
* the party leader has copies of everything relevant to the In Touch system
* Parental Consent Forms have been signed and returned
* Health Forms have been completed
* The notification form has been submitted to DC
If no one in the Group or District has an appropriate authorisation for the activity planned, contact the County Adviser for that Activity or ACC Activities for advice. If procedures are followed we can continue to ensure that every young person within Scouting can undertake exciting and challenging pursuits tailored to best suit their abilities and age.
